Recent moves to improve the commonality of the disability access provisions in the Building Code of Australia (BCA) and the Disability (Access to Premises - Buildings) Standards 2010 have substantially harmonised the BCA with the Disability Discrimination Act. As a result, the BCA carries significant implications for building owners, tenants, property and facility managers because of the revised disability access provisions.
The following disability access legislation governs building surveyors, building certifiers and desginers in the advice they offer building owners, occupiers and managers whose building needs to comply with disability access legislation because of proposed building works, illegal building works and either the requirement or need to upgrade.
The Disability Discrimination Act 1992 is a federal government Act provided for the protection of individuals against disability access discrimination based on disability.
