Once a year the body corporate holds an annual general meeting – you may nominate yourself for one or more positions at this particular meeting. The election of members takes effect immediately after the close of the meeting at which they are elected (Standard Module Section 19(2)).
An extraordinary general meeting may also be called to elect committee members where the committee previously was made up of only one individual, which is the case where all lots where identically owned (Standard Module Section 11(5) & (6)).
Nomination forms will be sent out either via email in the weeks leading up to the AGM, ensure that you complete all sections of the form and hand it in to your Community Manager at least one day before the Meeting date.
You may nominate other parties through the committee nomination form also mentioned in the above, be sure to check when handing your form in that you have signed the form to indicate your consent to the nomination
At the Annual General Meeting there is also another chance to claim a position on the committee.If not all positions are filled through the nominations received before the Annual General Meeting, you may either nominate yourself or organise another person present at the meeting to nominate you (you will be required to be present for this kind of nomination)
If the positions of the committee are not appropriately filled, an extraordinary general meeting is required to be held to fill the necessary positions (Standard Module Division 4A).
If you wish to put yourself up for nomination in the event of a vacancy in the committee arising, notify the body corporate in writing that you would like to be seen as a candidate for such.
Important note: when completing your nomination forms, ensure that you fill in all sections! if you are having trouble with completing your form I would advise calling your Body Corporate Management company and asking for help.
