What is Living in Strata?
Living in Strata is a project to create a free, complete, up-to-date and reliable information on everything relating to Strata. It is built in collaboration by contributors from Australia wide. You can read more about Living in Strata on the About us page.
Who are the contributors?
People from all over Australia who are dedicated to making Living in Strata the best strata information guide around. Most of us are people who stumbled across the site, just like you, and decided to share our knowledge.
Who edits and organises all this?
We do (the contributors). Although the site is administered by SSKB, contributors create articles and then edit them, and we organise the articles into hierarchies and make links between them, and things like that.
Can anyone float in off the internet and start writing articles?
That's the basic idea. We use a technique called Wiki that lets any contributors (once you've joined) edit any page, although it does go through an approval process before being uploaded.
How do wikis work?
Wikis evolve. One contributor adds as much as they know about a topic, and others start adding more information. Other contributors come through and condense it all so it reads well. As the topic changes -- new legislation etc, more contributors can add that in. - It's strange, but it works!
What are the levels of users?
  • General user (browse and search - everyone)
  • Member (browse, search, use the forum, receive updates)
  • Contributor (browse, search, use the forum, receive updates, contribute and edit information.)
How do you join Living in Strata?
Everyone is welcome to browse and search Living in Strata. If you want to contribute or edit our wiki, you have to log in first.
Once you click Join and fill in the online form you will receive a confirmation email to the email address you provide.
You'll need to join as a Living in Strata member to enable you to use the forum, receive updates and contribute.
How do I join as a Member?
  1. Click Join and fill in the Log-in name, email address and password in the online form.
  2. Tick that you've read the Terms and Conditions.
  3. You will receive a confirmation email to the email address you provide.
  4. Once you receive the confirmation email, click to confirm your membership to the Living in Strata community.
To make contributions to Living in Strata you'll need to fill in the rest of your profile, including your phone number and address.
What if I decide I want to be a Contributor at a later date?
  1. Go to your Profile page (by clicking on Profile at the top of the page)
  2. Fill in all details marked with ^ on the online form and Save.
When you save your profile a message will appear at the top left of the screen letting you know it was successfully saved.
How do I join as a Contributor?
  1. Click Join and fill in your contact details (phone number, address, etc) on the online form.
  2. Feel free to enter a 'blurb' about yourself. You can also upload a photo of yourself or an image (like your logo). Make sure its 120x120 pixels otherwise it'll look distorted.
  3. Tick that you've read the Terms and Conditions.
  4. You will receive a confirmation email to the email address you provide.
  5. Once you receive the confirmation email, click to confirm your membership as a contributor to the Living in Strata community.
How do you edit your details?
You can update your profile anytime by clicking the 'Profile' button at the top of the screen.
What are Notifications?
You can select pages you wish to be notified of when a new piece of content is updated or added to.

  1. Click on the State tab your interest in.
  2. To see/select subheadings click on the arrow next to the relevant heading.
  3. Tick the boxes you want to be notified of.
  4. Make sure you click save!

How do I use the site?

Searching
  1. Click on the search field on the right side of the screen.
  2. Type in what you want to search on.
  3. Select which state you're wanting to search in the dropdown menu next to the search field.
  4. Click search
A list of headings will appear with the word you've searched highlighted in yellow.
You can select the section which is most relevant to what you're looking for.
Browsing
  1. Hover the mouse over the state you're interested in to see the drop down menu.
  2. Hover the mouse over the heading to view a list of topics
  3. Click on the Heading or Topic you would like to read about.
Forum
  1. Click on the forum button at the bottom of the page
  2. To create a new topic - click "Create new topic", Enter your topic title and content - click create.
  3. To add comments to a topic - click on the title of the topic and post a new comment - click create.

Contributing

How do I edit and submit new content?

You can contribute new content or edit existing content for a publisher to review and approve via the article page.

Make sure you are in the page you would like to update/ add to. Click on the on the edit symbol (the pencil at the bottom right) and a text box will pop up to edit existing content (click here for editing instructions) and provide additional notes for the content approval team.

Once the edit is submitted a confirmation email will be sent to you, and your edit will be added to the review queue for approval / rejection.

What is the leader board?
The leader-board is a tally of the top 30 contributors as well as your current standing. A point is allocated to you each time one of your content edit suggestions is approved.

Click on "leader board" at the bottom of the screen.

The Forum

How do I post a topic in a forum?
Easy -- click the relevant button on either the forum or article screens. You need to register before you can post a message.
How do I create a topic on the forum?
Look over the topics before creating a new one. Click on the Create New Topic button. Enter your topic title (make sure it is informative), add your content and click create.
How do I add a comment on the forum?
To add comments to a topic - click on the title of the topic and post a new comment - click create.
Why can't I access a forum?
To read, post, etc. you need to be a member of LIS. Join Now If you are a member and can't access the forum please contact us info@livinginstrata.com.au
